Sophia Loren chooses Dave LaMure Jr. as “Best of Show”! Weem’s Artfest, was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on November 4-7, 1999. Gary E. Johnson, the Governor of New Mexcio, stated, “Weems Artfest has been recognized as the prominent show of Arts & Crafts in our great state.” Approximately 200 artists placed one piece to be judged for the “Best of Show” award. Included in this competition were some internationally and nationally known artists such as; Amado Pena, B.C. Nowlin, and Steve Hanks. A panel of seven judges chose the best five pieces and Sophia Loren,who flew in from Geneva, Switzerland, for the show, made the final choice. When she chose Dave’s piece as the “Best” she honored him with not only a beautiful crystal trophy, as well as two airline tickets from Southwest Airlines, but a kiss as well! And ironically, the next day, Sophia Loren, was voted the “Most Beautiful Woman of the Millennium”! Dave is an artist like many artists who, for years, gives his best, asking through showing his work for acceptance of his creative efforts. At the Weems Artfest, good fortune smiled widely on his talent and now he has bragging rights, knowing that Ms. Loren, who is both an artist herself and an avid fine art collector, felt he had the best piece in the show. |
