Contemplating Compadres
Inside the vessel is a sculpture of a Harris Hawk, which is the only hawk that hunts in a group, thereby “contemplating” each others actions. Arizona claims the largest populations of these large hawks, which have a docile disposition towards humans. The need for this hawk to have “compadres” is equivalent to its survival. The Harris Hawk is surrounded in red which shows off its intensity, strength and passion of this unique bird of prey. The fascinating brilliance and power these birds carry, provide reflections of our primal needs. The opening in the vessel is a mirrored reflection of the hawk stooping in a dive. This vessel was inspired by Dave LaMure Jr.’s fascination with birds of prey and specifically the unique qualities of the Harris Hawk.
